Did you know that women in compromising situations regarding their spouse or partner are more likely to receive abortions? Abortions are most common in communities where fathers have left their families, fail to provide for their children, or are involved in gang or criminal activity. While women are primarily discussed during the abortion debate, men play an intricate role in keeping families together and preventing abortion.
Fatherhood is a divine calling. When you choose to create life, you automatically assume the responsibilities to protect and provide for your partner and children. As American citizens, we need to place greater emphasis on the important role of fatherhood, its psychological effects, and call for greater accountability and involvement from fathers and men around the country. In conjunction, we need to express greater gratitude to the men in our lives who fulfill their familial duties and provide for their children.
Often, circumstances out of one's control drive men to believe their only option is to turn to gang activity, criminal actions, or leave their families. To all the struggling fathers out there, you are not alone. There are resources available to help you take care of your family, financially and emotionally. There are family counselors and fatherhood resource centers that can help you find solutions for your family and keep you together. Reputable centers include fatherhood.org , fathers.com , and fatherhood.gov .
How can you make a difference? Show support to these programs by donating funds (anything helps). Consider writing a letter to the father figures in your life, thanking them for their influence. Set goals for yourself that will help you become a better father or find ways to support your spouse in their parenting role today.
